My Resolutions

In the manner of the Resolutions of Jonathan Edwards, I now make my own resolutions for my time at NDSU (Note: the introduction prior to the resolutions is Edwards’, not mine).

Being sensible that I am unable to do anything without God’s help, I do humbly entreat Him by His grace to enable me to keep these Resolutions, so far as they are agreeable to His will, for Christ’s sake.

  1. Resolved, that in all things—whether in word or deed—that I would glorify God.
  2. Resolved, that I will give my best effort in class and nothing less—for the glory of God and for my ultimate good.
  3. Resolved, that I will attend a biblical church every weekend—unless circumstances prevent—to worship, to fellowship, and to learn.
  4. Resolved, that I will attend Chi Alpha, Campus Crusade, or any other Christian organization on campus for the same reasons as in the 3rd Resolution.
  5. Resolved, that I will do hard things and refuse to be kept down by the low expectations for my generation.
  6. Resolved, that I will encourage others to do the same.
  7. Resolved, that I will step outside of my comfort zone, as I have failed to do for most of my life.
  8. Resolved, that I will do everything I can to leave my shy nature in the dust so that I can most effectively get along with others and minister to them.
  9. Resolved, that I will let Christ shine through me to my roommate, my suitemates, my classmates, and everyone that I encounter at NDSU and throughout the Fargo-Moorhead area.
  10. Resolved, that I will not be ashamed of the gospel.
  11. Resolved, that since I will not be ashamed of the gospel, I will not be afraid to preach it, no matter how afraid I am of failure, embarrassment, and rejection.
  12. Resolved, that I will be ready at all times to encourage, to serve, to comfort, and to disciple.
  13. Resolved, that I will not seek to make friends for the sole purpose of fulfilling my deep longing for companionship, but also for the purpose of being a good friend to others and of ministering to their needs, whatever they may be.
  14. Resolved, that I will not compromise my values and morals.
  15. Resolved, that though I will not partake in the sins of those around me, that I will not look down upon those people but rather share the gospel of Jesus Christ with them.
  16. Resolved, that I will make sure not to neglect caring for my body as I focus on caring for my soul.
  17. Resolved, that I will reach out to those in need, whether they be poor, hungry, lonesome, sick, grieving, or anything else.
  18. Resolved, that I will read and study God’s Word with a fervent desire, making sure to apply what I learn to my life with the help of the Holy Spirit.
  19. Resolved, that I will be baptized for real and that from that point on, I will always live life in light of what baptism symbolizes—dying to the old self and being raised to new life in Christ.
  20. Resolved, that I will pray without ceasing, especially for the lost and broken at NDSU.
  21. Resolved, that I will have a heart for those at NDSU, those at my church, those in the Fargo-Moorhead area, those back home, and anyone I encounter wherever I may be.
  22. Resolved, that I will not let my desire to find a godly man lead me to lust but rather to wait for God’s perfect timing, as He prepares me for my husband by transforming me into a godly, Proverbs 31 woman.
  23. Resolved, that when I see the need to correct a brother or sister in Christ, that I will do it in a biblical manner, making sure that I correct with love and humility.
  24. Resolved, that if I feel called to go on Summer Project next summer, I will not fear my parents’ reaction and that I will trust in God to provide a way for me to go without their financial support and encouragement.
  25. Resolved, that I will use my talents, time, and treasure for the glory of God.
  26. Resolved, that I will let no idols into my heart and that upon first realization that something might be ahead of God in my life, I take action to restore it to its proper place.
  27. Resolved, not to waste time on the Internet, or anywhere else for that matter.
  28. Resolved, to be thankful for all of the amazing things that God does in my life and the lives of those around me while I am at NDSU.
  29. Resolved, to always praise Him for all that He does and all that He is.
  30. Resolved, to not neglect the leading of the Holy Spirit in my life.
  31. Resolved, to spend my time at NDSU in such a way that at the end of it all, I will not regret anything I did or anything that I failed to do.
  32. Resolved, to confess my sins and not only that, but to turn from them, not presuming upon God’s mercy, grace, and forgiveness.
  33. Resolved, to always be a blessing in the lives of others.
  34. Resolved, to stay close to my parents, honor them, and live in such a way that they will see Christ in me and want what I have: a saving relationship with Jesus Christ.
  35. Resolved, to seek God with all my heart, with all my soul, with all my mind, and with all my strength for the duration of my time at NDSU.

I ask for your prayers as I head to NDSU and try to live my life according to these resolutions and ultimately, according to the Word of God.
